TEENAGE PREGNANCY AND ITS CONSEQUENCES

Teenage pregnancy also called adolescent pregnancy is a situation whereby a young girl of 13-16 years gets pregnant without any source of income and has not reached the age of maturity or giving birth. Teenage pregnancy in some undeveloped countries is seen as a taboo, the teenage mother faces stigmatisation from the society.

Today, the rate of teenage pregnancy has reduced through the creation of awareness programmes, provision of medical services such as birth control, the use of contraceptives etc. Teenage pregnancy has always been a problem to the teenage mother to be. It changes her future plans just in a moment. Most teenagers who are able to scale through this period are those with loving and supportive parents. But truly teenage pregnancy is not and should not be the end of life though there are some consequences afterwards.

THE CONSEQUENCES OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY

- It changes a teenagers future plans.
- The teenager may drop out of school.
- It causes depression and emotional pains.
- Medical complications may occur during childbirth.
- Taking care of the baby will be difficult since it wasn't planned.
