PREPOSITIONS are functional words in a phrase or sentence which shows what one thing has to do with another. They pose great difficulty to anyone learning the English language since their use is not governed by hard and fast rules and is sometimes illogical. It is often difficult to explain why one preposition is used in certain circumstances and not another. We say, for example, we are proud of our work, but: we take pride in our work.

An employee is an individual who provides labour to a company or another person.
