Learning About Menstruation

Menstruation was just a word to me until I experienced it. Then, people do come to school to give a free talk on girl's hygiene and Menstruation. Sanitary pads were often distributed, since I was not menstruating yet, I did not just value it. I would get it and dump it inside a bag not until I was 10 years old. During the holidays, on a fateful morning, I woke up to see a stain of bright reddish colour on my pant. It was blood. I was shocked I thought it was some sickness or wound, then I didn't even remember that it could be menstruation. I hurried to see my mother, to show her my blood stain. She told me it was really nothing to worry about as I have grown to be a woman now. She caution me to stay away from guys as they may likely get me pregnant at any little touches. I was a good girl then and still a good girl now, I listened to my mother's instructions. I was given sanitary pads to use. I started changing pants and clothes frequently, I started bathing frequently too. Anywhere I go, I carried a hand bag that contains extra pant, toiletries and sanitary pads. Apart from my mother, I learnt menstruation and the reproductive system from my Biology teacher. Menstruation lasts from 5 to 7 days. It comes with severe pains and cramps. Some people don't really feel pains at all but I think it depends on one's body system and metabolism. I learnt about menstrual cycles and ovulation periods. Above all, I became a woman the day I started menstruating.
