Before the examination
Get enrolled :
To prepare for an examination, they first thing expected of you is to enroll and register for the examination. When you register, you become a full candidate to participate in the examination. Most examination registrations are free, some, a fee is to be paid. Make all the necessary payments and go through due process to become a candidate.
Get the syllabus:
There is no study without a syllabus. Every subject or course has it syllabus, likewise examination. There is always an area of concentration. You can't just be reading everything and anything. Get the syllabus, an area of concentration for the exams.
Have textbooks, notebooks and reading materials:
This is one of the passports to getting an excellent result. You must have reading materials in order to pass an examination. Get textbooks, follow the syllabus and read them. If you don't have the resources to buy textbooks. It is not an excuse, visit the library. It's free as long as you register and have a library card. While reading, have a notebook by your side to jot down important ideas. Have a pen or pencil to write. Get a reading lamp to read mostly at night.
Have a specific time for your reading:
Have a study timetable, time most favourable to you. It could be in the early hours of the morning, evening or night where everywhere is calm and your brain is calm too. Some people read in the afternoon, but I won't advise anyone to read during the hot sun please. What you read might not absorb. Which ever way that is good for you, do it.
Revise past examination questions :
revise past examination questions on the course or subject. Questions could be repeated, they could just bring back an old question. It has happened and it will keep occurring. I remember when I was preparing for an exams. I didn't really read much, I was studying past questions and behold everything came out from number one to twenty, exactly the same questions and I passed excellently.
Meet a teacher :
where you find difficulties, meet a teacher. They will explain everything to you. You can hire a teacher to teach you, especially courses or subjects you don't understand.
Study, read:
read extensively covering all your syllabus. Don't cram. I don't like cramming and I won't advise anyone to do that. Read to understand, understand everything you read. Don't cram, you will forget it in the exams hall if you have a short term memory. You can cram to cite a literary work, a year or a person but cramming is not an intensive reading.
Discuss with others who are also preparing for same examination:
Meet with them, share ideas. They might help you with an important information.
Speak to your senior colleagues:
speak to those who have written the examination before and have an experience. Get to know what to take to the examination hall and what not to take.
During the examination
Follow instructions:
most people fail an examination because they refused to follow instructions. Attempt all questions if you are asked to do so. Tick where you are asked to tick. Comply to every instructions you are told. If you are given a certain time for the examination, be as fast as you could. Avoid malpractice.
Finally, after the examination, rest, rest, rest.
Don't think too much about the questions you answered right and they ones you didn't. It gives high blood pressure. Just relax, enjoy and wait for your result.
