Sex education is the process of teaching the young ones, teenagers and teens about sexuality, their body changes, relationship and all that they need to know to prepare them for the future.

Nowadays, with rapid growth of information, sex education is everywhere, children are curious about sex. Therefore, parents need to instill correct concepts of sex to their children as early as possible before they are misled by indecent magazines and irresponsible media.

Sex education is not encouraging sex but rather informing kids, especially teens so that they will be prepared when the time comes for them to engage in sexual intercourse.

Teenagers are scarcely informed about sexual health and contraceptive measures because sexual health education is still a cultural taboo. Every now and then, we hear stories of young girls getting themselves into trouble as a consequence of forgoing necessary precautions.

It is however necessary for parents to teach their children know about their body like; vagina, penis, breast and other sensitive areas. The should also teach their children the concept of reproduction. Sex education can be first taught by the parent most especially the mother since she is usually close the child but the father shouldn't be left out too.

The following are the importance of sex education;

* It helps the child to know about his or her body changes, the causes for these changes and how well to live a healthy lifestyle.

* It protect a child from all form of abuse, molestation from family members, friends, teachers and older ones.

* It creates an awareness of diseases and infections, teaches them how to manage their sexual behaviours, emotions and how to be safe in an unsafe environment.

* Encourages communication ; Children need to feel free to share their problems with their parents likewise the parent, they need to take their children as their friends. They need to be close and interact with them often so as to know their children's problem. Open communication with the children helps prevent abuse and molestation.
