Back then I was ten years old. I was a shy type and was not able to stand before the audience, even before my colleagues. On that fateful day when I got to school, I met a teacher but since I was shy and been a new student, I couldn't go in. I was called by an amiable friend to come in and sit. I was nervous. Will I be liked and loved? Will the student accept me as their friend? Will they take me as an ugly girl? Will they laugh at me? All these questions went through my mind and it made me even more afraid.
Finally, I found the courage to move into the classroom. I sat down close to my new friend and received lectures.
The next day, school was fabulous and exciting. It was like a dream that could never have been true but to my greatest surprise, it was real. Student were coming to my sit and I would bow my head down so as to avoid them. Politely, they asked me, " girl what's your name? What was the name of your former school? " I answered them politely too. As time went on, I was able to make friends and they were patient and peaceful with me.
In my class, there were twin girls who didn't look alike. Nsa, Israel, Olajinka, Lawrence, Blessing and David were my friends for the short time I have been in school.
I visited the library and fortunately, I fell in love with the library. Back then, we had lots of story books in the library so I would always go in to read stories and my favourite story was the fairytales stories. When I read the story, I wondered if such existed in the human world. I wish such existed so I will be in my dream world and never wishing to come back.
At the end of First Team my academic performance was poor, so I had to determine within myself that I will have to study hard next time. In due time, I was able to scope with the subject that I had problems with. I had problems with solving Mathematics. Back then, I never had passion for mathematics. I would just take it as every other subjects. I read in a book, " When you have passion and love for a particular thing, you flow and excel in such field. I felt it that moment, I began to develop passion for those subject that gave me headache.
Whenever I mention the name of my school to people, they rejected it. This always made me feel sad and shy to say it next time. Gradually, I became bold and confident to tell them the good things in my school and how the school has changed physically and academically due to the good Principal we had in school.
In my class, we had intelligent and bright student. We organise competitions such as quiz, debate and spelling bee. Though I don't participate in those competitions but I am always happy when my colleagues wins a prize. It is fun to be with them.
At the end of third term, I performed excellently. It made me so happy. This is my first experience at Secondary School.
