Though a home is an abiding place of affection, a safe place but in most cases it is the most dangerous place ever due to the abuses that exist in it. The abuse ranges from verbal abuse to emotional abuse. The abuser is mostly a man( a father) and the person being abused is usually a woman( a mother) and the abuse gets directly or indirectly to the children.
Children in abusive homes can experience the effect in differs way. They may be exposed indirectly to the abuser's violence towards their parent by witnessing or overhearing the abuse or by seeing bruises and injuries on the person being abused after a violence act such as fighting, slapping, beating with belt etc. Children experience the painful effect of abuses more though it cannot be seen, but their attitude and behaviour changes after a domestic violence.
Depending on the age, children in abusive homes may experience the following;
1. Mental illness: Domestic violence in homes make children think more than their age. This overthinking may cause depression.
2. Poor academic performance: Because of the problem they encounter at home, they often see themselves as failures. Most have little or no interest in school.
3. They cannot concentrate in class.
4. They worry about their future.
5. They hate home: They rather play with friends all day than stay in their abusive homes.
6. Most children grow up with this abuse into adulthood.
7. Mood changes: Abusive children faces mood disorder ranging from the feeling of anxiety to that of anger. Everything irritate them.
8. Aggressiveness, restlessness and destructiveness: Children in abusive homes derives pleasure in destroying things. By doing this, they release their stress and pressure. They are also very aggressive and restless.
